  Credit Union Membership

South Metro Federal Credit Union is a community credit union. Eligible members include anyone who lives, worships, works or attends school in Scott County, Minnesota.

If you are related to a current Member by blood, adoption or marriage, you are eligible to join SMFCU, regardless of where you live.

"Once a Member, Always a Member"
If a person leaves the field of membership, that member and all those that joined because of his or her membership may continue to belong to the Credit Union. When members die, their spouse, the blood and adoptive relatives of either of them and their spouses may join SMFCU.

If you meet one of these requirements, simply complete a membership application and make an initial deposit of $5 (or no deposit if the application form is accompanied by a signed payroll deduction authorization).

A minimum deposit of $100 is required to open a checking with interest account, and a photo copy of your drivers license or picture ID (signed) is required.

  1. Print and fill out our Membership Application (17K, PDF).
  2. Bring the completed information to South Metro Federal Credit Union to join now. If you prefer, mail this form to our office along with an initial deposit.
  3. Your membership card and deposit receipt will be mailed to you, along with additional credit union information.

Did You Know?

Your money is SAFE with our deposit insurance at no cost to you, the depositor. Your deposits are insured up to $250,000 through the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), an agency of the U.S. government, and Excess Share Insurance (ESI)

Why Join?

All earnings are retained in the credit union. That allows us to generally pay higher returns on savings and charge lower interest rates on loans than other financial institutions. Once operating expense and reserve requirements are satisfied, the income generated by loans and investments is returned to the members in the form of dividends and expanded low-cost services.

SMFCU members enjoy several other benefits of membership, including discount tickets to popular events. Find out more >>
